CD sketches

During the last couple of lessons we have been working on the designs of our CD. We have borrowed and combined some of the features used by a range of dubstep artists, for example dark and bright colours.

Front and Back covers: We have borrowed the 'ill' logo as it is our artist's trademark and is recognisable for his fans. The background will also be dark to represent the convention of the genre.

Inside Right: We have decided that on the CD side of the pack we will put together a collage of pictures we used in our video piece. This would allow us to relate the CD to our video production.

Inside Left: We decided to keep this side relatively simple and either include the words of the hit single in transparent white or use a picture of our lead actor's back.

Back: We have also thought of using the 'ill' logo once again at the back, but place small ones around the design.

Research and Planning - CD designs

Over the Last week we have been sketching the designs for our CD covers, as well as researching the covers of other dubstep artists. We have put together a collage in the lesson to gain understanding of the dubstep CD covers.

We have noticed that many of the album covers have a dark theme to it, with one or more bright colours standing out. The lettering is also done in a futuristic font, making the name of the artist stand out. We have sketched out some ideas inspired by this research.

Research and Planning - Back cover

I have looked at Skillex's back CD cover and have discovered some of the features that will have to present on our back cover.

Research and Planning - Front Cover

I have been researching the front covers of Skrillex and they appear to have futuristic/electric theme in common. I will experiment with 3D text and try my best to achieve a similar effect to put on the front cover. I may also include a picture of the main actor Dan on the front cover but brainstorming will have to take place in order to incorporate the artist's image and the main actor.

Research and planning - Video improvements

I have used youtube to research some of the techniques that are required for the making of our video. For example: titles are needed to introduce the song, these are some of the examples that I found.

The last video could be used to create a 3D text for our front CD cover as Skrillex often uses this type of text for his hit singles.

Further improvemnt on the Video

I have been researching some of the channels that my video could be shown on and the most suitable seems to be MTV Base.

MTV Base is a 24-hour music and general entertainment channel from Viacom International Media Networks Europe. The channel focuses primarily on music from the world of R'n'B, hiphop, reggae, soul and urban. The MTV Base brand first launched in the United Kingdom and in the Republic of Ireland on 1 July 1999, later launching in other European territories such as the Netherlands and Germany. MTV Base Africa launched in February 2005 throughout the African continent and MTV Base in French-speaking territories launched on 21 December 2007.

MTV base seems to broadcast those genres that aren't always featured on the radio stations and are of a mainstream pop genre. I figured this would be perfect to show our music video on as dubstep is a relatively new genre and would be suitable for the channels showings.

Furthermore I decided to include the MTV Base logo in our video, almost as a watermark so it would appear in all the shots. We would place it in the left hand corner of every frame.
